Battle Stackers is the result of a 6 week long development process. It is a micro strategy board game that also incorporates micro deck building. Players have a deck of 3 cards that they put in any order. When their pieces match the requisite stack height on the card, they can activate that card’s abilities. Otherwise, players can move their pieces according to an action point system. When players run out of their three card deck, they can remove any or all cards for replacements up to 3 in any order they like but they must play the order in which they put them in. Pieces that have fallen in battle aren’t removed from the board and become obstacles, adding a dynamic element to the game as well as adding another layer of strategy. The fallen piece’s player can move onto the same space as the fallen piece but the opponent cannot. In addition, the two stack piece, Dual Archers, cannot shoot through a fallen piece. This project had an incredible evolution from the initial idea of a MOBA tactics game. The two micro systems - movement and deck building feed into each other almost seamlessly to make a really fun and replay-able game loop. Battle Stackers was designed in conjunction with Blake Andrews , Zachary Barash , Erenyx Qiu, Christian Sutton and Rizky Winanda and features a custom designed and laser cut board with stackable pieces and custom illustrated character cards.
